In June of 1984, Bishop Allen B. Coleman received a prophecy that some day God would place a pastoral grace upon his life for the church of the end time. Pondering the word, Bishop Coleman began fulfilling the first phase of his ministry by evangelizing throughout the country along with his wife, Pastor Angela, and family. The Colemans ran the travel circuit for nearly a decade.

In August of 1989, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy. He abruptly pulled the Colemans off the travel circuit and right into the pastoral ministry. As the grace and mantle to pastor became fluently exercised in the lives of Bishop Allen & Pastor Angela, many lives were changed. Years prior, Bishop Coleman had seen a vision of an infant being spoon fed into supernatural growth. Not only did Bishop Coleman now understand the vision, but it became the hallmark of the vision of the church that the Colemans founded.

Voice of Joy was founded in November of 1989. Almost immediately the Lord confirmed that His hand of approval was over the work. In March 1990, Voice of Joy became registered with the state of Florida. With the continual confirmation of the Lord's hand, Voice of Joy began to make increase of itself. The following ministries were registered in December of 1997, under Voice of Joy Ministries, International: Voice of Joy Sanctuary of Glory; Restoration Community Development Corporation; International Fellowship of Covenant Churches and Ministries, Inc.; and Lifeline Center of Hope for All Peoples, Inc. The most recent addition is Voice of Joy Self Help Economic Association.

In October 1999, Bishop Coleman celebrated 20 years of saying "Yes" to the Lord which was hosted at the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Jacksonville. The Lord confirmed that the Tirshatha (Regional Governor) anointing was indeed upon Bishop Coleman's life. He received his official installation into the Honorable office of Bishop during a Coronation Ceremony held in November 1999. The Lord has mightily proven that Voice of Joy is a vision whose time has finally come.
